PEDAGOGICAL TRENDS IN AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION IN EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT OWNED UNIVERSITIES: EVALUATION OF DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the availability and functionality of information and communication technologies (ICT) for teaching agricultural education in state universities in Ekiti State. The research design used for the study was survey research design and three research questions guided the study. The area of the study was Ekiti State, Nigeria. The population for the study was 25 and since the size of the target population is defined, accessible and manageable, then census was adopted. The instrument used for data collection is a checklist. Cronbach Alpha method was used to analyse the instrument and a reliability coefficient of 0.79 was obtained. The research questions posed were answered using average and percentages. Findings of the study revealed that few ICT facilities are adequate and functional for Agricultural Education Programme, among others. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the management of these universities should endeavor to provide enough functional ICT facilities in proportional to the number of students for effective teaching and learning of Agricultural Education, Lecturers should undertake training and retraining in the use of ICT facilities for effective instructional delivery, an enlightenment campaign should be carried out to sensitize Lecturers of Agricultural Education to develop positive attitude towards the use of ICT facilities in teaching and learning of Agricultural Education, computation of results among others.
